Michael Sexauer (37 years old) a true fan of Sooner Football and the OKC Thunder, was recently a victim of an intracranial hemorrhage.  This sudden hemorrhage led to a stroke, which rendered Michael unable to speak clearly and unable to use the left side of his body.  For those of you that don't know him, Michael is an artist who relies on his hands to make his life's work.  While Michael is still relatively young, this has been a devastating blow to his livelihood and his future.  

Michael spent 2 weeks in the ICU where a surgery to remove a section of his skull was performed to allow the hemorrhage to drain and the swelling to subside. After his stay in the ICU, Michael was placed in an inpatient facility to intensely work on his physical, speech, and occupational therapies. Recently, he was released to go home to continue his healing. He has made strides in his speech therapy and has started to regain movement and feeling in the left side of his body. The surgery to replace the removed skull with a prosthetic (yes, science and engineering!) has yet to be scheduled. Michael must wear a helmet whenever he is up and about to protect his brain until he has his skull replacement surgery.  

The journey in front of Michael will be steep and slow.  But, with patience, determination, hard work, therapy, and a good sense of humor, he is expected to make a full recovery in about a year’s time. While Michael's healing is dependent upon the work he puts into his recovery,  it is also equally important for Michael to maintain a positive outlook during his journey. The support of all those surrounding Michael, both near and far, known and unknown, is and continues to be critical in his recovery. We are so thankful and humbled by this outpouring of love, and send it back full circle to you and all those you love.
